Hand motions:

Nibble, nibble:         Position pointer and middle fingers like beaver teeth and make two biting  motions against thumb.

Snap:                       Snap fingers together.

Scoop, scoop:         Cup hand and make two scooping motions

Pat:                          Clap scooping hand against other hand.

I’m Done!

Narrator: Welcome to our reader’s theater of I’m Done! written by Gretchen Brandenburg McLellan and illustrated by Catherine Lazar Odell.

All:                Nibble, nibble, snap.

Narrator:        Little Beaver carried a twig to the stream. He set it across the water.

Little Beaver: I’m Done!

All:                 Flish, flish, swish!  It was fish.

Fish:              Bet you can’t catch me!

Narrator:       Little Beaver followed Fish

All:                Splish, splish, splash down the stream.

Narrator:       Slap! Slap! Slap! Papa’s tail slapped the water.

Little Beaver scurried back.

Papa:            You’re done?

Little Beaver: (nodding) Yes.

Papa:            Not yet.

All:                Nibble, nibble, snap. Nibble, nibble, snap

Narrator:       Little Beaver dragged two more sticks to the stream and set them across the water.

Little Beaver: I’m Done!

All:                Wing, wing, zing.

Narrator:       Blue feathers flashed high above.

Bird:              Bet you can’t find me!

Narrator:       Little Beaver followed Bird through the trees.

All:                Wiggle, wiggle, waddle

All:                Slap! Slap! Slap!

Narrator:       Mama’s tail slapped the water.

Little Beaver hurried back.

Mama:          You’re done?

Little Beaver: Yes.

Mama:          Little Beaver, what are your paws for?

Little Beaver: Paddling and playing and –patting.

Mama:          And scooping. You’re not done yet.

All:                Nibble, nibble, snap.

                      Nibble, nibble, snap.

Nibble, nibble, snap.

Narrator:       Little Beaver set three more branches across the water.

All:                Scoop, scoop, pat

Scoop, scoop, pat

Narrator:       He patty-caked them together with mud.

Little Beaver: I’m done!

All:                Scurry, scurry, slide

Narrator:       Otter scooted by.

Otter:            Bet you can’t tag me!

Narrator:       Little Beaver chased Otter into the big pond.

All:                Twirl, twirl, swirl.

Narrator:       He whirled down deep and tagged Otter.

Little Beaver: You’re it!

All:                Slap! Slap! Slap!

Narrator:       Papa’s tail smacked the water.

Uh-oh!

                      Little Beaver paddled to Papa.

Papa:            Follow me.

Narrator:       Little Beaver trailed Papa back to his pile of twigs and mud.

Papa:            Little Beaver, what is a dam for?

Little Beaver: Making a pond.

Papa:            Where is your pond?

Narrator:       Little Beaver looked under a leaf. Papa didn’t smile.

Papa:            You’re not done yet, are you?

All:                Nibble, nibble, snap

Scoop, scoop, pat

Nibble, nibble, snap

Scoop, scoop, pat

Nibble, nibble, snap

Scoop, scoop, pat

Little Beaver: I’m done!

Narrator:       But Papa was working on their family dam and Mama was working on their lodge. Two busy, too busy to come.

So Little Beaver carried a branch to help Papa.

Little Beaver: I’m Done!

Papa:            We’ll see.

Narrator:       Little Beaver paddled a branch to Mama.

Little Beaver I’m Done!

Mama:          We’ll see. Later. Right now it’s time for bed.

Narrator:       In their cozy den Mama sang a song of a busy little beaver whose dam was nearly done. Little Beaver dreamed of

All  (softly):    Nibble, nibble, snap. Scoop, scoop, pat. Slap, slap , slap.

Whoosh!

Narrator:       The sound of water rushing through his dam startled Little Beaver awake. He hurried outside.

There was still work to do.

All:                Nibble, nibble, snap. Scoop, scoop, pat.

Narrator:       The sun dipped and Bird called for him to race.

Little Beaver: Not yet!

Narrator:       So Bird stayed to help.

All:                Nibble, nibble snap. Scoop, scoop, pat.

Narrator:       The moon rose and Otter called for him to chase.

Little Beaver:  Not yet!

All:                Nibble, nibble, snap. Scoop, scoop, pat.

Narrator:       Fireflies glowed and Fish called for him to swim.

Little Beaver: Not yet!

Narrator:       So Fish helped too.

All:                Nibble, nibble, snap.

Scoop, scoop, pat.

Pat, pat, pat.

Narrator:       OH!Little Beaver and his friends watched in wonder as silvery water

pooled behind his dam. He waded into his pond and lifted his tail.

All:                 SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!

Narrator:       His tail smacked the shiny water.

Little Beaver:  Mama! Papa! I’m really done!

Narrator:       Mama and Papa scurried to his side.

Papa and Mama: Oh, Little Beaver! You really are done!

Papa, Mama, Fish, Bird, Otter: HOORAY!

Narrator:       Little Beaver turned to his friends.

Bird:              Now can you play?

Otter:            Now?

Fish:              Now?

Little Beaver: Now! Race you across my pond!

All:                And wing, paddle, zing they did.
